Boiler Mounting

Boiler mounting are those machine components which are mounted over the body of the boiler itself for the safety of the boiler and for complete control of the process of steam generating.

According to Indian boiler regulations, the following mounting should be fitted on the boiler.

(a). Water gauge or water level indicator :- 

         Water gauge indicate water level of the boiler, every boiler is fitted with two such indicators . it is fitted with a draine  cock to blow out water at intervals so as not to allow any sediments to accumulate.

(b) . Pressure Gauge in the Boiler :- 

        Measures the steam pressure of the boiler in bar or km/m² . common type of pressure gauge used in Bourdow type pressure gauge.

(c). Steam stop valve or junction valve :-

     Junction valve and shop valves are essentially the same ; conventionally the smaller sizes are called stop valves ,and the large size are called junction valve. When ,a valve is mounted on the top most portion of the steam shell or drum, it is customarily to call it a junction valve . if it is connected in the connected in the steam pipe for regulating the flow of steam,it  is customary to call it stop valve. Its function is to shut off the steam or regulate the flow of steam to requirements.

The size of the valve is designated by the pipe diameter it connects , ie . 5 cm ,7cm or 10 cm valve.

(d). Feed check valve :-

     Functions of the feed check valve is to allow feed water under pressure to be passed to the boiler, but stop any water escaping back . it consists of two valves combined into one.

(e) Blow-down cock :-

      Function of blow down cock is to remove sludge or sediments collected at the bottom most point in the space in a boiler, while the boiler is steaming.

(f). Fusible plug :-

Function of fusible plug is to protect the fire box crown plate ,or the fire tube from burning when the level of the water shell falls abnormally low . it is made of gun metal.

(g) . spring loaded safety valve :-

        Function of the spring loaded valve is to prevent the steam pressure in the boiler exceeding the desired rated pressure.

(h). Dead Weight safety valves :-

        Upward pressure of steam is balanced by the deaduct of the valve. Used only on stationary boilers. Usually used for Lancashire boilers on other low capacity boilers. Discharge into waste pipe.

(I). Lever safety valves :-

      Suitable for stationary boilers.
