Important terms in thermodynamics and types of thermodynamic system

Thermodynamics :-

Thermodynamics deals with relations between heat,work and other forms of energy.

Reversible process :-

It is one in which both the system and the surrounding are returned to their original states, which is not so in the case of irreversible process.  In actual practice, all process are irreversible.

Cyclic process:-

Cyclic process is one in which the end states are identical that is.  The system after undergoing a series of process returns to its original position.

Quasi static process :-

In which system departs from equilibrium states only infinitesimally at every instant.

Adiabatic process :-

Adiabatic process is one in which there is no flow of heat between a system and it's surrounding.

Zeroth law of thermodynamics :-

It states that when any two bodies are in thermal equilibrium with third, they are also in thermal equilibrium with each other.

Ideal gas equation :-

PV=mRT
Where
P- pressure (N/m²)
V-volume
T- temperature
m- mass in kg.
R- gas constant Nm/kg.k

Van der waals equation for real gas.

(P+a/v²)(v-b) = RT

Where a and b are constant for any one Gas but differ for different gases and
v - mass specific volume.

Compressibility factor :-

            Z = Pv/RT

Types of thermodynamics system :-

There are three types of thermodynamics system.

1.closed system :-

There is no mass transfer across the system boundary. There may be energy transfer into or out of the system.

2. Open system :-

In which matter crosses the boundary of the system. Air compressor

3. Isolated system :-

In which there is no interaction between the system and the surrounding no mass or energy transfer across the system boundary.
