Ramnath Kovind was born in Parakh village in Darrapur tehsil of Kanpur country. His childhood was spent in extreme poverty. His family lived in a hay cottage. Javant, who was studying in class eight with Kovind, told that when his age was 5-6 years old, his house had a fire, in which his mother had died. After snatching his mother, his father raised him up. There are still two rooms in the village which is used for public work. Villagers said that Kovind was studying Kanpur at 13 years of age at 13 years of age.
