    Navratri 2021 worshiping method

Why is the festival of Navratri celebrated ?

There are two main stories related to the festival of Navratri in Hinduism.  According to the first story, a demon named Mahishasura had sought a boon from Lord Brahma that gods, demons or any other human living on earth could not kill him.  After getting the blessings of Brahma ji, the demon started creating ruckus among the three people.  After which the gods invoked Goddess Durga after being stricken by the terror of Mahishasura.  There was a fierce battle between Maa Durga and Mahishasura for 9 days.  On the tenth day, Goddess Durga killed the terrible demon Mahishasura.

According to another legend, Lord Rama worshiped Goddess Durga before climbing Lanka.  Pleased with the devotion of Lord Rama, Goddess Durga blessed him with victory, after which Rama defeated Ravana on the tenth day and conquered Lanka.  Therefore, on the tenth day of Navratri, the festival of 'Vijayadashami' i.e. Dussehra is celebrated.

    Religious beliefs on Navratri.

According to religious beliefs, this festival started when Maa Durga killed the demon Mahishasura.  It is said that the fight between Maa Durga and the demon lasted for 9 days and on the tenth day, Mata Rani killed the demon.  Since then the tradition of celebrating Navratri is going on.

    Important rules of Navratri fasting

Fasting does not only mean not eating food or taking food grains, but it also means keeping the mind clean.  During the fast, the fast is completed only by putting all your attention in devotion and worshiping according to the rules.  So make sure to follow these rules.

     * On the first day of Navratri, do Ghat establishment by law.
    * During Navratri, take a bath early in the morning and wear clean clothes and then also clean the place of worship.  After this, worship daily as per the rules.
    * Apart from morning, do aarti by putting a lamp of ghee in the evening also.
     * If the Akhand Jyoti is lit, then make proper arrangements to keep it ignited round the clock for 9 days.  Do not extinguish it after worship on the last day, but let it cool down on its own.
*Whenever you get time in the day, recite Durga Saptashati daily and chant the mantra.
*Eat fruits in fasting.  Do not eat tamasic things even by mistake.
*Maa Durga blesses only those people whose mind is also pure.  Therefore, do not get angry or say abusive words to anyone during the fast.
*Do not cut hair and nails during this time.
