Career of Bipin Rawat
Bipin Rawat was admitted to the 5th Battalion of the 11 Gorkha Rifles on 16 December 1978, the same unit as his father. As a Major, he commanded a company in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir.
His first posting was in Mizoram and he also led this battalion.
Rawat was also the 57th and last chairman of the State Committee of Chiefs—Major of the Indian Army.
Promoted to the rank of brigadier, he commanded Sector 5 and Multinational Brigade of Rashtriya Rifles at Sopore during Chapter VII mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). Where he was twice honored with the Mention of Force Commander.
Bipin Rawat assumed the role of Commanding General of the 19th Infantry Division at Uri when he was promoted to the rank of Major General.
Appointed 1st CDS on December 30, 2019 and assumed office on January 1, 2020.
