There is also a legend behind why Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated. Ganesh Chaturthi Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is celebrated with pomp across the country.
It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born on this day, on this occasion Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great pomp across the country.

Why Ganesh Chaturthi is Celebrated Mythology.

It is said that once in the mythological period, Maharishi Ved Vyas invoked Ganesha to compose the Mahabharata and requested him to write the Mahabharata.  Ganesh ji said that when I start writing, I will not stop the pen, if the pen stops, I will stop writing.  Then Vyas ji said, Lord, you are the foremost among scholars and I am an ordinary sage, there can be error in any verse, so without understanding and error, then write the shloka only after redressing.  From this day itself, Vyas ji started reciting shlokas and Ganesha started writing Mahabharata.  After 10 days the writing work ended on Anant Chaturdashi.  In these 10 days, Ganeshji kept writing Mahabharata by sitting on the same seat, due to this his body became inert in 10 days and a layer of dust, soil accumulated on the body, then after 10 days Ganeshji took a bath in the Saraswati river.  Cleaned the dust and dirt accumulated on the body.  The day Ganesha started writing, it was Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadramas.  For this purpose, Ganeshji is established every year on this date and after worshiping him with mind, word, deed and devotion for ten days, he is immersed on Anant Chaturdashi.
Its spiritual significance is that we should live ten days with restraint and after ten days, by immersing the dust and soil of the desires that have settled on our mind and soul, along with the idol, attain the form of a refined and pure mind and soul.
