Mythology related to lunar eclipse and solar eclipse

According to the legend, during the churning of the ocean, there was a dispute between the gods and the demons over the nectar paan.  So Lord Vishnu took the form of a Mohini on the day of Mohini Ekadashi.  The dispute should be settled and the intangible gods should be found.  For this, Lord Vishnu told that the nectar should be divided in equal parts between the gods and the demons.

For this he persuaded both of them.  After that Lord Vishnu made the Devas and Asuras sit in separate lines.  But the Asuras understood the trick of Lord Vishnu.  One of the demons took the form of a deity and sat in the line of the gods.  Lord Vishnu could not know this.

The sun and the moon told this trick of the asura to Lord Vishnu.  Lord Vishnu got angry on this and cut the throat of the demon with his Sudarshan Chakra.  Since he had consumed the nectar, he did not die.  Its head part became Rahu and the torso part became Ketu.  Since then Rahu and Ketu started considering Sun and Moon as their enemies.  These Rahu and Ketu grasp the moon on the full moon day.  Hence a lunar eclipse occurs.

Mythology of Solar Eclipse and Rahu Ketu

According to the mythology of Samudra Manthan, when the demons had gained control over the three worlds, the gods sought help from Lord Vishnu.  Lord Vishnu was invoked to save the three worlds from the demons.  Then Lord Vishnu asked the deities to churn the Kshir Sagar and drink the nectar that came out of this churning.  Lord Vishnu had warned the deities that keep in mind that nectar asuras should not drink because then they will never be defeated in battle.
According to the words of God, the deities churned in the ocean of Ksheer.  There was a fight between the gods and the demons over the nectar that came out of the churning of the ocean.  Then Lord Vishnu took the form of a witch and placed the deities on one side and the demons on one side and said that everyone would get nectar one by one.  Hearing this, an asura sat in disguise among the gods, but Chandra and Surya recognized him and informed Lord Vishnu about it, but by then the Lord had given that nectar.
The nectar had reached the throat that Lord Vishnu separated the asura's torso from the head with his Sudarshan Chakra, but by then he had consumed the nectar.  Although Amrit did not come down from the throat, but his head became immortal.  The head became Rahu and the trunk became immortal in the form of Ketu.  Rahu and Ketu had enmity with Moon and Sun only because of opening the distinction.  Later on, Rahu and Ketu have got a place under the shadow of the Moon and the Earth.  Since that time, Rahu has a feeling of hatred towards the Sun and the Moon, which leads to an eclipse.

How does the solar and lunar eclipses feel -

scientific perspective
According to science, the Earth revolves around the Sun while the Moon revolves around the Earth.  The Earth and the Moon rotate and come to such a place at a time when the Sun, Earth and Moon are all in one line.  When the Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon.  In this position of the moon, it is completely hidden in the cover of the earth and the sunlight does not fall on it, it is called lunar eclipse.  On the other hand, when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth and covers the Sun, it is called a solar eclipse.

There are three types of solar eclipse

Total Solar Eclipse

When the Moon suddenly comes in the middle of the Sun and completely covers it, then it is called a total solar eclipse.

Partial Solar Eclipse

When the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth in such a way that the Sun cannot cover it completely, only some part of the Sun is covered, then this condition is called a partial solar eclipse.

Annular Solar Eclipse

When the moon comes in between the earth and the sun while staying far away from the earth. In such a situation, only the central part of the sun is covered and the sun looks like a bracelet. This is called annular solar eclipse.
